1928 Chevrolet National Ab Sedan
Nicely
patinated RHD example imported from New Zealand to the UK in 2002 requiring some
TLC
Dating from 1928 this Chevrolet Series AB
National Sedan is a rare sight, particularly in right-hand drive form. It was
imported from New Zealand and registered here in March 2002 since when it has
had four former keepers to our vendor who has enjoyed the car since April
2016.
Not currently running, we are told it
shouldn’t take much to have her running again as it was in use some three years
ago. It has been sitting in a barn since and retains a fabulous time-worn
patina that’s irreplaceable and we think, should remain.
In period competition to Ford’s Model A and Plymouth’s Model Q, the
Series AB National offered a four-inch increase in wheel-base over its smaller
sibling, the Series AA Capitol and features a 171CU (2.8-litre, although the V5C
states 3.0) four-cylinder engine under the hood providing lots of torque and
low-down grunt. It drives the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission
and has four-wheel braking.
The history file
for this cool-Kiwi includes the V5C, multiple historic NZ road tax fee receipts
dating back to at least the late 1940s, some hand-written notes, original 1 year
warranty certificate from 1928, old photograph of the car, insurance doc from
1939, driver instruction manual, NZ car club info and email discussion relating
to the car from 2015.
An unusual and
interesting car for sure and one that with a little time and effort could be
back on the road with relative ease. For someone looking to enter the VSCC
Trials scene or have some warm and dry family fun in a Vintage car, this looks
like the most cost effective entry point imaginable....who says
Vintage motoring is an elitest sport??
