Description
1938 Fiat 500A Four-Seater 'English'
No
Reserve
One of only six known 500A four seat right hand
drive 'English' models; engine turns; includes spare rear axle, two engine
blocks and gearbox; the bonnet is included!
It
seems that the moment one says something is rare, another one turns
up!
Those out there with a keen eye, will have
realised that we had a fully restored example of an ‘English’ in our December
auction with the particularly rare C.R.Abbot of London coachwork. A limited
number of these cars were specifically made for the UK
market.
There are two thought to be in Sweden,
there is KMG 330 (which we sold in December and was used in the initial road
test for ‘The Motor’ in April 1939), there is the car offered here and it is
thought there are only 2 others known to exist. We
understand the previous keeper of this Fiat bought it from a George Millington
of Bentlawnt in approximately 1964. We imagine condition was pretty similar then
to how it appears today. Our vendor has also discovered from endless research
that the car was originally retailed by Ritchies of Glasgow.
Unfortunately, there is no official paperwork to go with the car
and the DVLA no longer recognise CYS 529, although the car comes with the
aforementioned copy of ‘The Motor’, a copy of ‘Baby Fiats’ by Dave Randle, a
spare rear axle, gearbox, two engine blocks, heads and carbs
Definitely a project but also definitely a rare project….let’s get
cracking…
