2004 Audi S4 Avant (B6)
Sporting V8
load-lugger with punchy 340bhp 4.2 engine; Recaro interior; service book with 9
stamps + PDI; fresh MOT until April 2023
Supplied new in June 2004 by Southampton Audi, this B6 Generation
S4 Avant (Typ 8E5) hails from the brief 2003-2005 B6 era prior to the adoption
of Audi’s now trademark huge front grill. As a result, these earlier B6 cars are
rather rare and sought after coming from a shorter production
run.
The V8 S4 marked a move away from
turbocharging for the faster models, its preceding model using a bi-turbo V6,
this new B6 S4 used a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre all-aluminium alloy V8
engine with chain-driven double overhead cams with variable inlet timing and
5-valves per cylinder (40 in total) resulting in a whopping 340bhp and 410NM of
torque giving it monstrous power and performance, with some road testers seeing
0-60mph times of under 5-seconds.
Audi
maintained their love of their famous all-wheel drive which is mated here
in this example to six-speed ZF automatic/tiptronic transmission with
paddle-shift.
Finished in black, the car has
remained in stock trim, riding on its original 18” Avus-III six-spoke light
alloy wheels shod in Avon rubber. Out of the rear poke the twin factory polished
exhaust tips with vacuum operated valves in the rear silencers to let more of
the fabulous V8 sound out when pressing on.
Inside, it's business as usual with black leather embossed Recaro
seats with electric adjustment, driver memory and adjustable lumbar as standard,
cruise control, automatic Xenon lights, parking sensors, carbon trim, electric
windows, mirrors, trip computer, powerful original sound system and digital
climate control with AC.
We
did note that the passenger window was reluctant to work, and the hazard
warning light switch was tricky to switch on/off given the slight mis-fit of the
coin drawer adjacent to it (as pictured) and some considerable wear to the
button next to the hazard warning switch. There are also some scuffs to the
paintwork of the n/s/r wheelarch area.
We also
noted the boot release mechanism wouldn’t always let us in the boot and
whilst moving the car around the ABS/traction control light came on and then
went off intermittently. The vendor
informs us the car has seen little recent use bar MOT on the morning of delivery
(which it passed) and the drive over to us.
Showing a moderate 112,112 miles, the history file includes the V5C
revealing this S4 to have had just three previous owners to our vendor who has
owned the car since May 2018, the service book recording nine stamps plus PDI,
the last in December 2019 at 99,777 miles by Kempsey Auto
Repair.
In addition, we find two keys, five old
MOTs, a couple of bills for works including a £969 spend in 2015 on a major
service plus ABS ring, front grill and headlight carrier, brake hoses, engine
mount and rocker cover gasket at 98,859 miles and the current MOT, valid until
April 2023 and recording two minor advisories for wear to the
front suspension bushes and a slight oil leak.
Tidy the few marks up, refurbish the wheels and fix the couple of
electrical foibles and you’ll have a very fast and capable V8 Audi Quattro
with all the versatility of the Avant (estate) body
with rarity on your side, particularly at the enticing estimate
suggested.
