1925 Austin Seven Pram Hood
Super example;
original upholstery; modern crank; off the road between 1934 and 1978; a lovely
thing
Early Sevens have a complete charm of their own, making even
late-Vintage examples look bloated by comparison!
This gorgeous pram-hood
AC-Chummy is rather special. It was first registered in July 1925 and was
supplied through George Heath of Birmingham according to the plaque on the dash
but had little use before the war, being laid up in 1934 when it was just nine
years old.
It was to remain in storage for the next 42 years, emerging in
1978. Thought to have originally been maroon and black, it was carefully
restored by Austin 7 Specialist Tony White and painted Kingfisher blue and
black.
In stunning order, it was sold in 1983, winning numerous concours
prizes over the next six years before changing hands regularly after that every
few years. It was even used by Rover Group on their show stand at the 1985
Earls Court MotorFair.
Its main charm, other than being so early and
dainty is its originality. The engine number is very close to the chassis number
and given its time in storage is thought to be the original. The rear
axle is dated June 1925 and it retains its correct early 6" brakes and back
plates. Although the hood, sidescreens, door cards and carpets are new, the seat
upholstery is totally original and remains in remarkable condition.
It
appears to have lived in France for a while before coming home. Its owner
in 2009 spent over £2,500 with Paul Rogers Engineering on a new
crank, white metalling, new pistons and balancing and it hasn't done a huge
amount since.
It appeared on the front cover of the Summer 2011 VSCC
Bulletin and has lived with its current registered keeper for over 10
years. It comes with a current V5C; VSCC eligibility document (non
transferable), some photocopied reference material, old MOTs and an original,
early handbook.
Early Chummys with pram hoods and single piece bonnets
don't come along very often. This one, with such originality and a rebuilt
engine fitted with a modern crank ticks every box.
