1965 Triumph TR4A
No Reserve
American
import in need of full restoration; engine turns and thought to be healthy
As the
Heritage Certificate confirms, this TR4A was built in February 1965 and was
originally Triumph Racing Green with a black leather interior and a black hood.
A LHD export model, it was despatched to Genser & Foreman of New York aboard
the vessel ‘Undine’.
Nothing is known of the
subsequent history of the car but by 2013 it was resident in Hartford,
Connecticut, from where it was imported back to the UK in October of that year
in much the same state as it is in today.
The
vendor tells us that he has previously removed the rocker cover from
the engine and that it looks as though it may have been rebuilt at some point
and still turns. As you can see in the photos, it is now in need of full
restoration.
Being sold here at no reserve and
strictly ‘as seen’, it is clearly missing a few parts (there is no windscreen
and there are no seats) but it does have a pair of bumpers, a hood frame, a dash
top and one door glass. There are also a couple of boxes of parts in the boot
(badges; gear lever; brake master cylinder; mirrors etc).
Documentation includes shipping documents and HMRC correspondence
confirming that all duties have been paid so it should be straightforward to get
it UK registered once it is roadworthy. Potentially worth around £25k once
restored to a good standard, it should keep someone gainfully employed as they
piece it back together over the coming months.
