1978 MGB Roadster
Tidy rubber bumper B that's
been in the same family since 1980 and showing just 59,556 miles remaining
garaged since 2013; runs but clutch pedal seized - ready for some light
recommissioning
Supplied new by Archers of
Shirley, Solihull in March 1978, this tidy MGB Roadster has retained its rubber
bumpers where so many have been converted and looks all the more jolly for
it.
Sitting on its original Rostyle wheels and
fitted with a black vinyl roof, contrasting nicley with the orange
bodywork, it presents well with chrome sill plates fitted and black vinyl
interior piped white.
The odometer shows just
59,556 miles which is believed to be correct, given the car was bought by our
lady vendor’s father in 1980, passing to her in 2013. The car has clearly had some restorative
work (although undocumented) but has seen only very limited, occasional dry
summer use in her tenure.
Prior to coming to
us, the clutch pedal has lost resistance, so we have been unable to drive it for
the usual video and pushed it gently around for these images. The underside looks to have been
liberally coated in protective wax-oil, the brightwork shiny and the paint
offers a deep sheen and the interior very tidy as with the
hood.
The history file includes the V5C
confirming just three former owners to our vendor, a note from the vendor
referring to “Toni” (the reg is TON 106S) confirming the car to have been bought
by our vendor’s father in 1980. He kept it in a heated garage before passing to
his daughter in 2013 who since married and has no use for the car. The note also suggests the car was
driven into the garage in the mid-90’s and hasn’t seen rain for more than 20
years!
In addition, we also find the original
owner’s pack with manual, original Leyland AA warranty with card and supporting
letter to the first owner, Mr G. Ford and original Passport to Service showing
just one stamp in February 1979 at 06340 miles, an old style V5
confirming two former keepers to our vendor’s father, and three old MOTs
from 1981 at 17,675 miles, 1996 at 59,402 miles and 2013 at 59,461 miles plus a
copy old MOT from 1986 at 46,729 miles.
We also
find some historic bills on file for parts including a new brake hose in 2015
and other sundries, many however undated.
An
exciting opportunity to climb into a low owner, low mileage later model ‘B in
classic colours which looks to be in nice order with a few little jobs to enjoy
doing before she hits the road again.
