1983 Land Rover Series III Diesel
Chassis-up
restoration; loads of new parts to complete; an easy project on offer from a
deceased estate
The restorer of this 88" Series III certainly went
to town. Stripped to its bare component parts, the chassis has been repaired
where necessary, including a rear 1/4 chassis by the looks of things.
Carefully treated, the axles have been cleaned and refitted with
new parabolic springs and new shocks. There are new brake pipes
and exhaust front to back.
The engine is back in, with new parts fitted
including the alternator, glow plugs and fuel pump, although sadly we don't
have any paperwork to tell us what else has been done to internally - a JLR
Services sticker on the gearbox and transfer box would indicate a rebuild of
that. It has a new tank fitted.
It has an uprated track rod and drag
link and a steering damper, and in the back is a swivel rebuild kit which looks
part used. The tyres look new as do the wheels which may possibly have been
powder coated, or are simply new we just don't know.
This leaves the
bulkhead to be completed, although again most of the work has been done on this,
and the wings and bonnet are present and in good order. It even comes with a set
of brand new Exmoor trim Deluxe seats and a new John Craddock
tilt-frame.
The vast majority of the car is present and being a Land
Rover, the few items that may be missing will be easy to locate. This would be a
very simple rebuild and make a nice, reliable workhorse that will last as
lifetime.
On offer for less than the price of the parts included, it
comes with a V5C, some old MOTs and looks like a great big Meccano
set.
Bidders are advised that there are a few more parts - dashboard and
various loom parts available for collection from West Wales within 2 weeks of
the date of the sale.
