Description
1991 Mercedes-Benz 300SL (R129) ‘Car
is in its original state, without substantial changes to the chassis, body,
steering, braking, transmission or suspension system and
engine’
Pretty, three-owner earlier R129
from eight year lady ownership showing just 80,516 miles; just 3,000 miles
covered in the last eight years
Supplied new
by Sterling Mercedes of Worcester in August 1991 this earlier R129 Merc SL comes
to us in 300SL guise and is finished in Brilliant Silver and wears its factory
removable hard-top with mohair soft-top underneath and rides upon its original
16” eight-hole flat face alloy wheels.
Under
the long bonnet, we find the proven M103 series 3.0-litre 12-valve SOHC
straight-six petrol engine which develops 188bhp, driving the rear wheels via
four-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, we
find the unusual but pleasant blue checker sports cloth trim, electric seats,
rear seats (they were optional), walnut trim, electric windows, wind deflector,
climate control, electric mirrors, heated rear screen (hard top), electric soft
top control, roll over bar button, cruise control and original Blaupunkt
radio/cassette player.
The car has worn its 31
years well, with few marks or signs of wear bar those commensurate with its
age/mileage with some wear evident to the driver’s seat bolster edge, some
sagging of the hard-top headlining and a small bubble to the driver’s wheel arch
lip as pictured.
The car comes to us from eight
year lady ownership with just two former keepers recorded on the V5C and just
80,516 miles recorded. In addition,
the history file includes the owner’s pack and service booklet with 17 stamps,
the last in September 2014 at 77,141 miles by Mercedes Specialists Ltd of
Stratford which is less than 3,000 miles ago.
In addition, we find eight old MOT certificates along with the
current, valid until June 2023 recording six minor advisories for
perishing/cracked front and rear tyres, surface corrosion to the rear exhaust
and a couple of slight oil leaks.
Bar the minor
advisories the car looks ready to be enjoyed and clearly crying out for some
regular use and perhaps a good service.
These early R129’s are rapidly becoming cars to buy, own and cherish
being more affordable than their R107 predecessor but much more usable and
practical.
**Bidders please note, we have attempted to remove the factory
hard top to photograph the car without the roof and confirm the soft-top
conditon but we have been unable to remove it, there is movement with the system
but it looks to have been installed for sometime and was reluctant to come off.
