Description
1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SLC (C107)
Pretty coupe
in desirable colour scheme from long-term, 21 year ownership; recent spend on
new sills; appreciating investment opportunity
Supplied new by B&K Thomas Mercedes-Benz of Nottingham in
October 1979 this impressive C107 generation 450SLC is finished in Gold and
sits upon its original 14” Mexican Hat alloy wheels and absolutely looks the
Bees-Knees (we think).
Under the bonnet, we
find the 4,520cc SOHC fuel injected (Bosch K-Jetronic) V8 petrol engine
which developed c.222bhp and useful 322NM of torque (considerable figures at the
time) driving the rear wheels via three-speed automatic
transmission.
Inside this four-seat coupe we
find brown velour interior (which was a more expensive option than leather),
walnut trim, electric front AND rear windows, electric sunroof with perforated
head-lining, original radio/cassette player and oodles of style and
comfort.
In uncommonly smart orde,r the
interior has worn its c.121,712 miles well and even the ever-so-cool rear window
louvres have remained intact and not-flaked. Outside, we find few marks and only
a few small, minor corrosion blisters coming through in the usual R/C107 places
and one cracked blister as pictured above the rear bumper corner to the NSR
panel.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing the car to have been with our long term owner for the last 21 years
with seven former keepers, the owner’s manuals and service book recording an
impressive 25 stamps, including a recorded speedo change in March 2009 at
c.83,467 miles, the last in October 2017 at 31,356 miles. The book also records
a further five stamps for brake fluid changes.
With the speedo change in mind, the car currently shows 38,245
miles which combined with the figure of 83,467 miles at the time of change
suggests a total recorded mileage of c.121,712 miles which is just 2,830 miles
per annum – not much at all.
Furthermore, the
history file also includes a MB warranty booklet from the supplying main dealer
B&K Thomas for the sale of the car in 1996 at for £15,000 at 34,316 miles,
original period sales brochure and selection of bills for parts and
maintenance including new inner sills in January 2019 by a Subaru main dealer at
a cost of £1,643, new battery in June 2018, new washer pump in Feb-18, fitment
of an overhauled throttle body and
bespoke oil cooler in October-17 costing £1,059, last major service in 2017 plus
supply of hi-tension ignition lead set at a cost of £1,144 and fitment of new
rear callipers in June-16.
In addition to the
above, we also note some 22 old MOTs on file – the car is of course now MOT
exempt, the last MOT expiring in January 2020 which recorded four minor
advisories.
This sleek four-seat grand tourer
is a most usable example and set to do big things with values rising in line
with its convertible brother, the R107 SL.
