1999 Rover Maestro
No Reserve
Fun
road/rally car for that International challenge; LHD
In
production from 1982 until 1995 the MG and Austin Maestros were very good cars.
After Longbridge production ceased, it was not the end of the story however. The
factory continued to produce the car in CKD (Completely Knocked Down)
form, supplying a number of businesses around the world, local garage
Parkway of Ledbury perhaps being the best known 'assembler'.
This 1999
left hooker was however a Bulgarian-built car, produced by a company called
Rodacar. It carried on using the indestructable 1,275cc A+ A-Series engine,
but this time coupled to a VW five-speed box. It was originally black and
according to the V5C, has enjoyed 10 UK owners and has been here since
registered new in November 1999.
The MOT, which incidently shows no
advisories and expires in April 2023 indicates 106,000 miles, but a look at the
speedo will tell you that this is KMs and as far as we know is probably right so
its more like 66,000 miles. The MOT history also shows that it has done nothing
for 10 years so is now looking for some excitement.
A past owner entered
the 2009 Staples to Naples Banger Rally, the car having lived in Spain from
2007 to 2008. He pimped the car to look (a bit) like a Paddy Hopkirk BMC rally
car (we can't remember those having 'I say, Ding Dong' stickers on the side) and
it provided 4,800kms of unbridled fun with no problems whatsoever.
There
are a few things to sort......the driver's door only opens from the inside, but
it starts instantly (well it is an A-series) and has been driving nicely around
the site. If you are planning an International venture, you could do a lot worse
than chosing this robust, spacious and comfortable machine which is simple
enough to fix when the going gets tough.
On offer at No Reserve, it could
well provide the most fun/£ in the sale....
