Description
1964 Bedford J2 - Wonka Van
One of the
original Bedford J2s used in the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory; for light recommissioning after a period in storage; proceeds to the
'StarterMotor' charity; a real piece of history
We are not sure how
many of these Wonka delivery vans were used in the 2005 film Willy Wonka and the
Chocolate Factory, but Brightwells have had the pleasure of offering two of them
over the last few years....
This one comes to us from 'StarterMotor', the
leading charity supporting the learning and education in all things Historic
Vehicles. Based at Bicester Heritage, and with close links to both Silverstone
and Brooklands, students get to learn all aspects of Historic Car restoration.
More details can be found here: www.startermotor.co
Along the way, StarterMotor have
inherited this important piece of film history (and the accompanying Postie
bike) which are being sold to help support the students.
Based on a now
rare and desirable J2 Bedford fitted with a Luton van, it hasn't run for a while
so will require a degree of recommissioning although the engine is free and they
were all well fettled for the film.
The body and chassis are very
sound and it currently retains some Wonka branding which is not shown in
the photographs. There is also confirmation
from the Roald Dahl Trust and Warner Bros that this truck and the Postie bike
(Lot 53) were used in the making of the film, a deed of gift from the Trust
and other bits and pieces including photos of it in it’s film
livery.
This van covers lots of bases, whether it
be charitable support, a piece of important film history or simply as a
good example of a now rare Bedford commercial. The last one we offered caused a
huge stir wherever it went, and once back on the road, this one should do just
the same.
Bidders are advised that we are due to recieve a current V5C
prior to the sale.
