1925 Amilcar C4 Petit Sports
Delightful sporty
Light Car; good performance; pretty as a picture and raring to
go
The vendor of this little gem acquired it in 2007 when his firend
spotted the car in a free ads paper (remember those?). It was wearing
a pretty awful body painted bright red and was fitted with yellow wheels - 'a
clown car' as described and the decision to buy it was made as the price became
more and more attractive!
A devotee of French Light Cars, the
vendor's interest has focussed on the earlier Amilcar models and he quickly
saw the potential of this 'Voiture Legere'.
Its bodywork was not original
and also riddled with woodworm, so no guilt was felt in removing it and skipping
the majority. The vendor enlisted Keith Hill to produce a 'Petit Sport' body in
ash and aluminium, which he did to exacting standards as can be seen today.
Various original parts had found their way on to the interim coachwork such as
headlamps, bonnet catches, screen and door catches etc which were used on the
Petit Sport recreaction where appropriate.
After several years of fun and
enjoyment, he sold it to a fellow Amilcar Register member who subsequently
offered it for sale through a dealer at rather an ambitious price.
After
a considerable period, our vendor re-purchased the car for a more realistic sum
and has enjoyed it ever since.
Since its return, he has sorted out a few
wiring issues and given the rear axle an overhaul including new bearings and
relined brakes. He also fitted new rear tyres and has given the steering some
careful adjustment.
The comprehensive history file includes an original
instruction book, a copy of the Amilcar Technical Notes, plus many photos and
useful documents to help its new owner make the most of the car.
The
unexpected arrival of two more rare and interesting French projects have
meant that the space where this charming C4 has been living is no more..hence
its inclusion in the sale - his loss is your gain as they say.
A very
active Amilcar club affords events both in the UK and abroad and this C4
Petit Sport is welcomed by the VSCC who also offer a huge range of activities
for fun and games.
Capable of bombing along at a steady 50mph, it will
keep up with modern traffic and has proven both extremely reliable and easy to
drive. Something a bit different from the ubiquitous Austin 7, it offers great
value and a whole host of activities to enjoy.
The vendor has added that
it comes with a dynamo and the original speedometer which are present but not
currently fitted.
