1964 Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII
UK supplied RHD
example; from long-term ownership; lots of care and attention over the
years
This highly usable Healey was delivered new to a UK customer
in May 1964 as one of the updated MkIII variants, fitted with a walnut dash and
wind up windows - introductions that took place just a few months
earlier.
An overdrive model, it was of course built in RHD form and has
an MOT history back to 1978 by which time it had covered 67,700 miles. It still
wears its original non-dated plate 475 NTM which doubtless has a value of
its own.
27 MOTs later, the mileage reads 124,269 miles, a figure thought
genuine - its current ticket expiring in August 2023 showing no
advisories.
It has been in the hands of the vendor since 2019 and shortly
after acquisition was treated to a new clutch and gearbox rebuild by
tramsmission specialists Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead.
Since then, it
has covered some 3,000 miles and proved both fun to drive and reliable,
including the overdrive.
An older restoration we would guess, it has
mellowed nicely and presents well bar a few paint blemishes as shown in the
photos. If a big Healey is on your shopping list, a MkIII is the most civilised
and powerful of the bunch, this example offering usability and proven recent
reliability.
