Description
Charmingly preserved scooter with a large history file from new;
ridden 40 miles to the sale; helmet included
This Lambretta
LD150 was bought new from A Williams & Co of Cheltenham in November 1958,
the original purchase invoice showing that it cost £143 - 8s including tax,
insurance and number plates. The first owner was a local gent, JP White, who
kept it for many years and maintained it religiously, as detailed in pages of
hand-written notes which go right up until 1986 by which time it had covered
48,734 miles. Originally registered as WAD 38, it lost this number when it next
changed hands in 2010.
Our vendor, who is the
fifth owner, acquired the scooter in 2018 and had it sympathetically restored,
preserving as much patina as possible. This cost £2,295 and included new tyres;
new Abarth exhaust; rebuilt carb; new throttle cable; new mudguard and localised
repairs to the paintwork. He currently has the scooter insured for
£6,500.
Now showing just over 49k miles it was
ridden some 40 miles to the sale but since arriving here it has developed a
fluid leak (oil/petrol) which will need investigating before it is ridden again.
It is only reluctantly for sale because the vendor has decided that the
time has now come to hang up his helmet – which is generously included in the
sale.
A much-loved scooter with a large and
interesting history file from new, this charming Lambretta now needs a new
custodian who can continue to preserve it for future generations to
enjoy.
