Description
As used by Clive Dunn in the BBC series 'Grandad'; nicely patinated
'27 Chummy; for recommissioning after a period off road
This
'proper' Chummy has led an interesting life. The vendor, who acquired the
car back in 2002 couldn't fathom the smoke bomb secreted under the floorpan,
until he realised its fascinating film past.
Pictures on file show it
during the filming of BBC 'Grandad', crammed full of suitcases and towing a
chicken house on wheels and driven by Clive Dunn!!!!
Earlier in its
lifetime the buff logbook shows it living with a Mr James James in Chertsey in
1956, moving to Ayrshire in 1967 and back to Kent in 1972 - it certainly got
around. The previous owner acquired it from a gent in Evesham in 1985 so he had
it for 17 years and our vendor has had the car for the last 21.
They
have enjoyed it, although it has been off the road for a few years. They had
removed some of the ancilliaries for checking and have only recently reinstated
them, and we think it will need retiming and a bit of fettling to get fired up.
It seems to have good compressions.
The file contains a few bills, old
MOTs and a VSCC buff form which although non-transferable, shows it as a
'standard' car which comes with a serviceable hood and a set of
sidescreens.
This lovely little Chummy has a great history and lots of
appeal.
