Rare 'Blob-eye' Type UK 'Widetrack' variant with 10mm wider rear
track and rear wheel arch spats; adj. centre diff (DCCD) ; re-mapped to
320Bhp; lots of fun and an exciting investment
Supplied new by Evans Halshaw Subaru of Cheltenham in December 2006
this striking World Rally Blue Impreza WRX STi Type UK hails from the first
face-lift era of 2nd Generation of (GD) Impreza and is known
affectionately as the “Blob eye” (think headlights) and looks great on its
gold-coloured 10-spoke 17” alloy wheels behind which sit some powerful Brembo
brake callipers also finished in Gold.
Under
the scooped Scooby bonnet we find the typical 2.0-litre flat-four EJ20
Boxer engine which reputedly pumped out c.261Bhp driving all four wheels via
six-speed manual transmission. This
example, a “Widetrack” variant features a 10mm wider rear track, DCCD (Driver
controlled centre diff – (adjustable centre diff)) and water jet to cool the
intercooler.
Inside, we find the comfortable
and grippy STi embossed seats finished in black with blue Alcantara centres,
electric windows, air con, Sony touch screen in-car entertainment centre, twin
cup holders and electric mirrors.
The car shows 98,473 miles and very
much looks the part, and was driven to us by the vendor from South Wales. We did note some slight rippling to the
OSR passenger door, visible in some light and evidence of previous paint
repairs, not uncommon for an 18 year old car.
The history file includes the V5C revealing six former keepers to
the current of nine years, an old V5C, the owner’s manuals and service book
recording eight stamps, the last in 2013 at 38,412 miles and a selection of
invoices.
Bills on file include a timing belt
service in August 2018 at 81,838 miles costing £1081, fitment of a three-port
solenoid and mapping with replacement aux belts in May 2021 at 90,238 miles by
David Coe Enterprises of Swansea, another timing belt service with ECU remap at
320Bhp in July 2015 at the same garage costing £1,514 and 11 old
MOTs.
The current MOT is valid until October
2023 with four minor advisories recorded.
A
fast and capable machine with appealing investment value at an enticing
estimate.
