Lot Ended
Description
1 of just 20 260Z Super Samuri's and just 1 of 2 made in 2+2 form;
featured on the front cover of one of the Samuri books; No. SS00020 on the
Samuri register; exciting opportunity with scope to recommission; clean MOT
until Sep-23
Dating
from March 1975, this earlier Datsun 260Z is a 2+2 variant, and some 30cm longer
in wheel base than the 2-seat version permitting usable rear seats yet manages
to maintain much of the style, grace and sporting prowess of the its 2-seat
sibling.
Finished in red and silver this car is
rather special, being 1 of the 20 260Z’s given the Super Samuri (yes we have
spelled that correctly) treatment by the legend that is Spike Anderson and, one
of just two 2+2 260Z to get the treatment making it very rare and special
indeed.
The car and its reg JAG10N is
relatively well known in 260/Samuri circles and features on the cover of one of
the various books about Samuri’s and is also No. SS00020 on the Samuri
register. There were only 77 Super
Samuri’s built across both the 240 and 260Z so these are rare cars with no more
being built. A link to the register is here - http://www.samuri.eu/index_files/Page1566.htm and a link to the
history behind the legend of Spike Anderson and the company is here - http://www.samuri.eu/index_files/SamuriProjects.htm for anyone
interested.
The car has come out of a period in
storage and while it was MOT’d without advisory in September 2022, the car would
benefit from some mechanical fettling as it didn’t appear to be running on all
six when we moved it around but was low on fuel.
The body/paint work also shows signs of age and previous work and
would also likely benefit from a proper, quality repaint to get the car looking
its best – and then, what a car it would be.
We
are not aware of exactly what modifications have been carried out by Samuri, the
car is still recorded as being 2565cc, it wasn’t uncommon for Samuri to increase
their capacity or what other enhancements have been carried
out.
The history file includes an old style V5,
2nd older style V5 and the current clean MOT valid until September
2023.
These Super Samuri cars are rare and
desirable with some 240Z SS versions commanding eye-watering premiums – they
aren’t building any more.
