Description
No Reserve
Hidden away since 2012 and in
the current lady ownership since 1986 showing 52,000 miles - ripe for
restoration
Dating from April 1985 this now hard
to find 80’s Fast ford is of course a MkII Fiesta XR2 and is finished in black
with red XR2 decals, twin spot lights and sits upon a set of 13” steel wheels
with white centre caps.
Under the bonnet, we
find the 1.6 litre CVH four-cylinder petrol engine with twin venturi Weber carb
and developed 96bhp driving the front wheels via five-speed manual
transmission.
Inside, we find grey cloth seats
with red pinstripes, manual windows, glass sunroof, heated rear screen and
original radio/cassette player.
The car shows
52,420 miles and looks a little sorry for itself, this is because its spent the
last 12 years parked up at our vendor’s (now deceased) home under a cover, by a
fence, under a tree (see photo) where it sat, unused, but fortunately dry with
airflow around it.
No attempt has been made to
start the car but it does roll around although not all the tyres hold air
for long.
The history file includes the V5C
which shows two former keepers, although the former is also the current with an
address change, thus the car has been in the same lady owner’s hands since
September 1986.
In addition, we also find the
original purchase invoice from Brooklyn Ford dated September 1986 at which time
the XR2 had covered just 24,750 miles for £5,199 minus the part exchange value
of £700 for her old MkI Fiesta, 10 old Mots dating from July 2006 at 48,098
miles back to August 1992 at 80,706 miles suggesting the car has covered
c.152,420 miles in total.
Furthermore the file also includes the
Brooklyn Ford mechanical insurance booklet and selection of historic bills for
maintenance works dating back to the early 90s.
Evidently in need of some restoration/recommissioning, this looks
like a sound and exciting project and given the hike in values and demand for
classic Fast Fords a worthy one too.
