Description
Well-known Historic race car; hot engine; extensively raced in the
'80s and '90s; fresh MOT; quicker than you might think!
Photos on
file show this impressive Jag racing in white livery and registered 175 BRU -
you may remember it. A plate change to the current 6002 PK and a repaint in
racing black and red are simply part of the car's history.
It first hit
the circuits in the late 1970s, piloted by Roger Wilkinson who won the 1982
Jaguar Saloon race and laterly in the hands of Charlie Saunders in the
Bridgestone Series at Zandvoort...International history no less.....
It
eventually ended up in an East London scrappy, Westlake head and all, remaining
in remarkably sound order before being resuced by a Swansea-based weight-lifter
(stories don't get much better than that), the car heading West to find a new
life by the sea.
Our vendor, a local Hotelier, became acquainted with the
car and wryly states 'it was the most resitable car I had ever seen'...but a
short spell behind the wheel convinced him otherwise. Some surgery to the sills
followed by a repaint, since when the car has enjoyed a more relaxed life away
from the track, but still getting some proper exercise.
Some years ago,
it was advertised with a Westlake head - ie.big-valve, Kent cams, Tuftrided and
balanced crank with a lightened flywheel, solid-skirt Powermax pistons, an AP
competition clutch, 13 row oil cooler and a high-pressure fuel pump. It also has
a stainless fuel tank - all of which remain with the car. The vendor adds that
the engine has loads of go and has minimal oil consumption.
The braking
was upgraded with a system from an XJS, including four pot vented discs. It was
advertised as having new steering joints way back then and 'ideal for fast
weddings'!!!
As recently as 2019 it had a bespoke 2" stainless exhaust
made at a cost of £930 and carries a fresh MOT which expires in May 2024 with
just one advisory for a leaky steering box. The vendor describes it as very
sound underneath.
On offer for a fraction of the build cost, this Mk X
racer looks huge fun and remains perfectly practical and tractable for road use.
