Description
Rare LWB example with 5.0 V8 power, double-glazing, heated
electric rear seat; acres of leather showing just 87k thats covered only c.1,100
miles in the last 10 years
Dating from
April 1996, this imposing face-lifted W140 series Mercedes S-Class comes to us
in S500L (long wheel base, Chassis #W140051) guise and is finished in Azurite
Blue and sits upon its original 16” eight-hole alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet, we find the 5.0-litre M119E50 V8 petrol engine
which develops 315bhp and 470NM of torque driving the rear wheels via five-speed
5Gtronic automatic transmission giving enough oomph for the dash to 60mph in
around 7 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph.
Inside the well appointed cabin, we find soft-close doors,
double-glazing, acres of soft tan leather, walnut trim, electric front seats
with driver and passenger memory, electric rear bench seat with primary controls
on the passenger side rear door, with function to move the passenger seat
remotely from the rear controls too.
In addition, we find rear illuminated vanity mirrors, cruise
control, adj. lumbar, folding rear head rests, rear blind, automatic digital
climate control, two-stage heated front seats, heated rear seats, stability
control, electric mirrors, rear ventilation, folding front arm rest with remote
control for the Pioneer stereo system and parking sensors. In the boot, we find the warning triangle and some boxed service
parts for the new owner.
The car shows 87,646
miles and has seen little recent use, being laid up in storage for much of the
last 10 years and would likely benefit from a major service and some regular
use. The bodywork shows a few minor
marks as pictured, and the wheels would benefit from refurbishment but on the
whole the W140 sits well. We
did note the ABS/ESP lights are illuminated which will likely need to
be investigated by the new owner.
The history
file includes the V5C showing just three former keepers to our vendor, an
eclectic collector, the owner’s pack and service booklet showing 10 stamps, the
last in December 2013 at 86,563 miles by Toyota, Jersey suggesting the car has
covered just over 1,100 miles in the last 10 years.
In addition, we also find two old Mots, the current Mot valid until
November 11th 2023 which recorded just two minor advisories for
“brake pipe corroded or covered in grease etc” and a bill for £1,792 dated 2005
for a service, new coil spring and ABS control sensor.
A rare car nowadays to bring back to fully glory and enjoy – they
don’t make them like the W140 series anymore and with this Lot, the '500' plate
is included for a bit of added glory.
