Interesting later model MkI Clipper wearing Porsche 928 alloys; scope
to use and continue to improve; clean Mot
Dating
from August 1987, this rather natty looking Volkswagen Golf Clipper Convertible
hails from the most popular era, the infamous MkI and comes finished in
Bronze with matching brown Mohair hood.
It sits on a set of 15”
Porsche 928 Teledial alloy wheels of a similar era which, combined with the
colour, small front bumper and being de-bumpered at the rear give the car a
cool, aggressive stance akin to the popular ‘Euro-style’
look.
Under the bonnet, we find the 1.8 litre
EX four-cylinder petrol engine with carburettor driving the front wheels via
five-speed manual transmission.
Inside, we find
a cream vinyl/leatherette interior with what looks like replacement seat covers,
brown carpets and dash, manual windows and mirrors along with heated glass rear
screen for the manually operated soft-top and no stereo fitted (although there
is one to be wired in inside the glovebox). We also note a few boxes of bits
including the rear bumper, tonneau cover and a new packaged rocker cover
gasket.
The car looks good and shows 115,334
miles and offers scope for light cosmetic improvement with a few corrosion
blisters, some localised micro-blistering and other marks to the body and areas
inside the car, but looks like a solid example which was driven to us by
the vendor.
The history file includes the V5C
revealing 14 former keepers to our vendor of 2.5 years, 10 old Mots, the current
Mot valid until June 2024 recording no advisories and selection of bills for
parts purchased including a recent timing belt, new Weber carb, ignition items
etc.
Ready to be used and improved, or enjoyed
as is, this looks like a fun bit of kit with some killer wheels, that
have a value all of their own.
