Lot Ended
Description
Tidy, late model P1800 shooting-brake with fuel injected 2.0 B20F
engine, 4-speed manual with O/D; charming interior; very usable; former concours
winner
Dating from March 1972 this rather
striking Volvo P1800 ES is finished in ‘Light yellow’ and sits on its original
15” steel wheels with polished outer lips and looks very well with its
distinctive shooting-brake styling and forward-thinking frameless glass rear
hatch.
Under the bonnet, we find the typical
fuel injected 2.0 litre B20F four-cylinder petrol engine which developed
125bhp, considered less ‘peaky’ than its carb fed sibling and more
driveable. Power went to the rear
wheels via four-speed manual M41 gearbox with Laycock Overdrive in this
example.
Inside, we find a comfortable 2+2
cabin with black leather faced seats, matching black carpeting, door cards and
dash along with some typical wood veneer trim, manual windows and original
Motorola radio/cassette player. We even find the original tool set present in
the boot.
A former concours winning example,
the car comes to us along with Lot 43 the Volvo 122 S from a local Volvo
collector and enthusiast who has owned this lovely example since January 2018. The car presents well with but a few
minor cosmetic imperfections (as pictured) and has been starting promptly and
running well as we have moved it around on site with good oil
pressure.
The history file includes the V5C
showing seven former keepers, an old V5, owner’s manual, some period sales
information for the car, 31 old MOTs, the current MOT (although of course
exempt) valid until October 2024 showing four minor advisories (enter the reg at
check-mot.service.gov.uk), plus a purchase receipt from
Yr.2000.
Bills on file date back to the early
'80s but include a £740 spend in 2018 on a new thermostat, fan belt, fuel
pipe clips and other sundry items, repairs to fuel hoses and radiator works in
2019.
We also note
inclusion of the car’s concours history with a Best in Show won in 1988 at the
West Midlands Classic Car Club Eagles meeting, 2nd place at Attingham
Steam Rally in May 1988, 1st Place in June 1989 at the Volvo Owners
Club National Rally and again in July 1989.
Ready to be enjoyed, this is a splendid opportunity to acquire a
smart example of this rare variant, just 8,077 P1800 ES were built during its
two-year life and we know the P1800 is good for mileage with American owner Irv
Gordon clocking up 3.2 million miles in his P1800 S.
