Highly
sought after Ford Escort 1600RSi; dry stored since 2006; exciting opportunity to
recommission a highly original fast Ford
First registered in May 1983, this fast Ford has been with our vendor
since 2006. He purchased the car as an MOT failure, parked it up in his garage,
removed the battery and drained the fuel, all with the intention to get this
Escort back on the road again. However as so commonly happens, life took over
and 18 years on our vendor has decided it’s time to let a lucky new owner take
the keys and recommission this ‘80s icon.
The
original MOT failure from 2006 was for rust in both rear sill corners, but
looking over the car we can see some bubbling is also occurring in various other
places (see photos). The car was Ziebart rust-proofed from new which has no
doubt helped to keep any serious corrosion at bay. The interior looks all
original and the seat covers have worn a bit baggy and the dashboard has cracked
(a common problem with Fords of this era).
Under
the bonnet, we find the fuel-injected 1.6 litre CVH engine with computerized
ignition and fuel injection to give an impressive 113bhp, a competitive power
output for rivals of the era. Power is sent to the front wheels via
five-speed manual transmission and viscous-coupling LSD.
Coming with no documents other than the V5C, this is a rare
opportunity to bag an unmolested example of this ‘80s icon.
