Description
From a
deceased estate; in the current ownership for 31 years; restored in the early
1980s and lightly used since; a delightful little Ruby in need
of recommissioning
Supplied new by Woodyatt Motors of Southend
in December 1937 (their plaque is still on the dash), this delightful Ruby was
to remain in Essex for the next 40+ years. By the late 1970s it was with a Mr G
Waters of Cambridge who treated it to a body-off restoration between 1979 and
1982, as detailed in many invoices and photos on file.
It seems from the photos that the
car wasn’t in too bad a state to begin with. The engine was rebuilt with new
pistons etc, the machining work being done by Moore’s Engineering of Histon
Road. All other mechanical aspects were rebuilt as required and the chassis and
bodywork were also restored.
The interior was retrimmed with new door
cards, carpets and headlining, with a new vinyl roof covering which still
retains the original smoker’s hatch. The blue leather seats are in excellent
shape and look to be original apart from the front seat squabs which have been
expertly re-covered and blend in nicely. A detachable luggage rack is also
present, ideal for picnics in the countryside.
On offer here from a
deceased estate, the current owner acquired the car in 1993 and has clearly
looked after it well. Various old tax discs and MOTs show that the car has been
in light use since the mid-1980s, although it has only covered around 500 miles
since 1999. The last MOT expired in 2009 and it seems likely that the car has
not been driven since.
In running order when parked up, this
charming little Ruby is on offer at no reserve and will doubtless benefit
from some precautionary recommissioning before venturing forth once more.
