Quirky classic; part of a
large collection; use and improve
The
JC Midge is a hand built car designed by John Cowperthwaite, essentially a
re-bodied Triumph Herald, Vitesse or Spitfire.
The
design was inspired by 1930s British cars such as the MG J2 Midget, the body
being made of aluminium skinned plywood. The designer of the Midge claimed you
could turn your car from a set of patterns to an on the road cruiser for just
£800.
Our Midge here is based on a 1968 donor car, probably
a Herald or Spitfire and comes fitted with an 1,147cc engine, seating for two,
along with a good sized luggage compartment behind the
seats.
The interior looks smart
and shows little wear, the exterior too looks good, finished with contrasting
wooden doors which look great against the wooden dash and green seats with white
piping.
Showing just 52,844 miles
on the odometer, little is known about this car including its conversion -
unfortunately the only paperwork we have is the V5C that shows it was first
registered in March 1968 and has six recorded previous
keepers.
Starting, running and
driving nicely on site, this quirky classic looks like great fun for the summer,
it even comes with its own picnic basket and set.
