Description
Only 17,630 miles indicated and believed correct; four owners, the
current for 10 years; driven 35 miles to the sale; highly original; a proper
time warp!
This super
Dolomite 1850 was supplied new by Colliers of Birmingham in November 1974. It
has had just four owners to date and is showing only 17,629 miles on the clock
which is believed to be correct. An old MOT from 1982 shows that it had covered
11,342 miles by that date, while 12 other MOTs show the mileage rising slowly
from 2002 – 2018.
The original owner’s
handbook has a note in the back cover recording some service items in June 1986
at 14,200 miles. There is also a letter from the second owner dated November
2011 which states that he bought it from the family of the original owner and
that ‘the genuine mileage of the car from new does not exceed 16,000 miles’.
Our vendor acquired the car from Birchfield
Classics of Stockport in 2014, the purchase invoice also stating that the
mileage was correct. All pretty convincing and backed up by the general
condition of the car which looks totally original with minimal signs of wear.
Our vendor has kept the car garaged during his
10-year ownership and has looked after it well with various invoices for parts
fitted and for a small patch of welding to the n/s/r under sill in 2016. He has
also fitted a Kenlowe fan and an electronic fuel pump compatible with all modern
fuels (the engine runs fine on unleaded petrol). A new battery was fitted
earlier this year and a Haynes workshop manual is also
present.
Driven some 35 miles to the sale, the
car has been starting promptly and running sweetly as we have moved it around on
site. As you can see in the photos, it looks smart and original and hides its 50
years remarkably well. Surely amongst the lowest mileage examples remaining,
this charming Dolly is ready for a new owner to enjoy and would make a great
addition to any collection.
