Description
On offer from a Special Cotswold Collection; beautiful LHD Roadster in
desirable SE spec from long term ownership; rare 9:1 compression engine;
C-Type head and bigger SU carbs; looks to be matching numbers
Supplied new via
Hoffman of New York in June 1954, this lovely Jaguar XK120 SE Roadster comes
from a Special Cotswold Collection and was acquired by our vendor in 2005, being
first registered here in February 2006 having come in from Holland in the late
‘90s.
The Heritage Certificate shows the car was
originally finished in Birch Grey with a red leather interior and French Grey
hood, with manual transmission and a 9:1 compression ratio 3.4 XK engine, the
‘S’ prefix to the chassis number denoting that it is a ‘Special Equipment’
model. The car boasts twin exhausts, C-Type cylinder head and twin SU
sand-cast carbs which should make it good for 210bhp rather than the 180bhp of
the standard cars. After checking the numbers on the car it also looks to be a
matching numbers example which is great news.
As
a Roadster version, the clever hood hides away completely behind the seats
giving sleek lines with those wonderful Lucas Flamethrower spot lamps on the
front.
It is thought that the car was restored in the early 1990s (possibly
in Holland), being repainted in the glorious bright red we see here. It looks
wonderful, as you can see in the photos and in the video available on our
YouTube channel which was shot on location at our vendor’s Cotswold
home.
Our vendor bought the car at auction from a
private collection in Holland at which point it was showing 27,286 miles (now
29,587). Forming part of a large collection, the car has been very little used
during our vendor’s 20-year ownership, including a couple of runs up Prescott,
as shown in photos on file. It starts and runs but we did note that the brakes
were sticking so it will require a degree of recommissioning before being driven
on the road.
The history file includes the V5C
showing sole UK ownership since import, old style V5C, Heritage Certificate,
historic auction listing, Dutch vehicle inspection dated December 1995 with
photos plus 8 old MOTs from 1999 to 2012. There are also various bills for parts
purchased and minor maintenance including a new electric fuel pump and new jets
to the carbs in 2014 costing c.£700.
A lovely
example that is now crying out for more regular use, it is on offer here at a
very attractive guide price.
