Description
On offer from a Special Cotswold Collection; original UK market
car; fully restored in the not-too-distant past; 5-speed gearbox
conversion; a nice example which joined the collection in 2012
First registered
in Blackpool in November 1952, this MG TD is a rare UK market example as all but
1,700 of the 30,000 made were supplied new to America.
It comes with a large history file containing the original buff
logbooks and lots of invoices dating back to around 2003. There are also some
undated photos of an earlier restoration for which there are no invoices. It was
clearly a comprehensive job and included stripping the car right back to a bare
chassis that was then painted, along with the body, before getting pieced
together with a newly upholstered interior.
At
some point the car has been fitted with a Ford Type-9 5-speed gearbox, a
well-known upgrade which makes the car much more enjoyable for modern road
conditions.
Old MOTs show that from 2005-2011
this pretty MG was covering around 1,000 miles a year before joining our
vendor’s collection in January 2012. The last MOT was issued in November 2011
with no advisories recorded, since when it has only covered around 300 miles.
Looking very appealing in our classic car barn
with cream bodywork complemented by lovely red leather seats and trim, it has
been running and driving nicely on site, although we did note that the brakes
will require attention due to lack of recent use.
