Rare and distinctive
Mercedes-Benz classic commercial; well restored some years ago; requires some
recommissioning after 6 years in storage
The rugged L319 range of
commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz were unveiled to the public at Frankfurt
Motorshow in 1955.
Offered with payload varying
from 1.6 to 1.8 tonnes, the were halfway between a light van and a light truck,
thus sold well with over 120,000 finding buyers before they were replaced by
their successor the T2 in 1967.
This restored example was
spotted in a Mercedes showroom in Krakow, Poland whilst the last owner was on
holiday – he purchased it there and then, confirming that the restoration had
been comprehensive and to a high standard.
The truck cab incorporates an
original radio and instruments, the only non-original item in the vehicle being
a period 2.0 litre diesel engine.
The rear tray was renewed whilst the oak bed and sides look to have
remained in good order with tipping mechanism understood to work as it
should.
The truck was purchased from
Brightwells in March 2017 since when it’s barely been used thus is reluctantly
offered for sale again. We are told
the truck won’t start as a result of being laid up in storage for the last six
years and would no doubt benefit from a thorough recommissioning.
