Older restoration; in single ownership for 40 years
Once a common
sight in any farming county, the Fordson Major was the backbone of British
farming in the post-war years. Offering rugged, versatile and economical power
from the ploughed field to the saw bench, the Fordson Major was a great success
for the Ford Motor Company, pouring out of the Dagenham works at up to 300
tractors per day.
This Fordson Major MkI is
thought to date from January 1957. While there is no paperwork with the vehicle,
we are told that it was acquired by Ernie Branfield of Leta Engineering and
Plant Co Ltd, Newport, Gwent, about 40 years ago. He had in turn acquired it
from Harold Johns, a Massey Ferguson dealer in Trellech.
As you can see in the photos, it looks to have been restored at some
point in the not-too-distant past and is ready to take to shows or put back to
work on the land.
