Description
Recently built Tomcat 100"; only 213 miles from build; 3.9 Rover V8;
look like a race or rally legend in this cool off-road/on-road racing-style Land
Rover
First
registered in August 2022 following successful IVA by Fleet Service of Preston,
this epic looking Land Rover Tomcat was lovingly built by our vendor between
2015 and 2021 with the assistance of Mendip Auto Electric and a host of other
specialist suppliers.
The
Bowler Tomcat kit was designed by Drew Bowler in the late 90s/early noughties
for competition racing and utilised a modified Range Rover Classic chassis,
shortened to 100 inches with an integral roll cage, light weight body panels and
usually, a Rover V8 engine.
Development of the Tomcat continued, with production being handed over to
Tomcat Motorsport and the Tomcat evolving into the Wildcat which has seen
significant success in off-road racing – and can also be seen and experienced at
Goodwood Festival of Speed taking passengers on high speed off-road experiences,
for example.
This
fine example is finished in Loire Blue and sits on a set of 18” Boost alloy
wheels finished in black and shod with road-biased Kumho tyres and wears its
lightweight fibre glass body panels well, managing to look both athletic and
aggressive at the same time with its bulges and lumps. The bulges on the bonnet house the front
shocks/mounts with the 3.9 litre Rover V8 engine sat nice and low for ideal
weight distribution.
There
are no doors, you simply climb in, the roll cage discreetly surrounding you,
whilst you buckle up into blue race seats with 4-point harnesses and fire up the
beast. The rear clam opens upwards
on quick release catches, exposing the spare wheel mount, impressive
looking rear shock absorbers, battery and cooling fans, fed by a big scoop/duct
of the roof.
The
history file includes a host of bills detailing the build including purchase of
the Salisbury rear axle with 3.54 ratio costing £2,596 alone, the remanufactured
V8 engine costing £4,080, chassis work/parts costing £4,920, new transmission
£3,570 plus many bills for sundry parts relating to the build. The file also
includes many photos of the build including at its bare chassis/roll cage
stages plus documentation relating to its IVA and registration process and
Thatcham approved immobiliser info. The Tomcat is also correctly registered
as a Tomcat 100.
Most
recently, the truck has been treated to a new K&N air filter, new battery,
new Bosch fuel pump, coolant system test and dyno session which showed it
produced 151bhp and 176 lb/ft of torque in January 2024.
Showing
just 213 miles since registration, this Tomcat looks ready to be enjoyed, on or
off-road and given it cost the vendor some £39,000 to build it
looks excellent value at the guide price suggested.
