Rare non-sunroof model modified by Lombardi Coachworks in period with
various special features inside and out; fully restored in 2015; lovely and very
usable LHD example
The 500 ‘My Car’ was a version
of the 500 developed by the Vercelli body shop of Francis Lombardi between 1968
and 1971. It was not the only 500 modified by the Piedmontese coachbuilder, but
was the only one to have real commercial success. Incomplete cars arrived at the
Vercelli body shop from Fiat, to be completed with the appropriate Francis
Lombardi parts.
The ’My Car’ model boasted some
eye-catching features including a shaped dashboard covered in black plastic,
wooden steering wheel and gear knob, stainless steel sill covers, rounded,
chromed Zamak grille and steel wheel rings. The most innovative element of this
car is the shape of the roof which, with two transverse ribs and a small
spoiler, inferred an image of sportiness and refinement which improved its
market appeal.
Dating from 1971, this My
Car Francis Lombardi looks to have been fully restored around 2015 with some
photos of the process on file. It then flew through an MOT test in June 2016
which it passed with just one minor advisory (rear brake pipe slightly corroded)
and it has only covered 100kms since, the odometer currently showing 67,773kms
(42,100 miles).
UK registered with a V5C recording one former keeper and
copy Italian registration docs, this is a delightful, rare and well-appointed
500 that would grace any collection.
