Description
Beautiful condition throughout; super rare, one of just 1,500 made and
perhaps 30 surviving; recent full restoration; only 200 miles on rebuilt engine;
an excellent addition to any Fast Ford collection
This MK2 Ford
Escort Harrier was first registered in January 1980 and is one of just 1,500
made to commemorate Ford's victory in the 1979 World Rally
Championship.
Only two colours were available, 1,000 in Diamond White (as
here) and 500 in Strato Silver, the flat front and rubber rear RS spoiler
combined with the unique three-tone blue body stripes helping to distinguish the
Harrier models.
Other special features included Recaro front seats;
sports steering wheel; quartz clock mounted in the centre console; front quarter
bumpers; Triplex bronze tinted glass; black door mirrors and handles; halogen
headlamps; auxiliary driving lamps; rear spoiler; heated rear window; padded sun
visors and Aeroflow ventilation with eyeball vents.
Our vendor has owned
this rare Harrier for the last 10 years and it comes with a good-sized history
folder with invoices back to the 1990s, although we are told that much recent
work has been carried out for which there are no invoices. There is an invoice
for a rear axle and gearbox overhaul by Nutts Performance Classics in February
2018, and the vendor tells us that a full engine rebuild took place at the same
time (he is currently sourcing an invoice for this work).
While the
engine, gearbox and axle were out of the car getting rebuilt, our vendor took on
the not-so-small task of restoring the body and underside. While we have no
invoices for this work it is clear to see it was done to a good standard. The
vendor tells us that the panels were renewed or repaired as required, the engine
bay was repainted and the underside clearly received its fair share of love and
attention.
It shows just 2,618 miles on the odometer, however, there is a
slight mileage discrepancy in the MOT history in 2008 when the mileage drops
from 2,222 to 1,833 miles. The last MOT took place in June 2019 where it passed
with no advisories and the car has only covered 73 miles since.
Our
vendor has covered just 500 miles in the car in his 10-year ownership and
believes only around 200 miles have been put on the car since the engine and
gearbox rebuild in 2018. It has been starting promptly and running well as we
have moved it around on site.
Presented in superb condition and as clean
underneath as it is up top, this fabulous Ford would make a great addition to
any collection. It is thought that only around 30 Harriers survive worldwide so
you are unlikely to see another for sale soon, let alone as nice as this
one.
