Dating from 1978, this MGB Roadster was sold new via Wadham Stringer of Hove to a Dr Stringer of London and has 11 stamps in the Passport to Service book up to 1984. It comes with lots of bills back to the early 1990s including substantial expenditure in 1998 when it was fitted with a replacement Ivor Searle engine, new carburettors, new clutch kit and new sill castles, since when it has only covered some 25,000 miles as evidenced by 15 old MOTs on file.
Our vendor acquired the car in 2015 and expenditure during his ownership includes a rebuilt back axle and new ARB bushes in Aug 2016 which cost £1,548 while in July 2018 it had a new water pump, track rod gaiters, manifold studs and a service at a cost of £665. Shortly before he acquired the car it had been treated to a bit of a makeover to give it a more racy look including a Sebring-style front end with additional air intakes, Perspex headlamp covers, additional driving lamps, Minilite-style alloys, uprated brakes, Spax adjustable suspension, roll bar, tow strap and a fibreglass hard top (but no soft top). Other features include working overdrive, leather seats, electric cooling fan, brake booster and recent new alternator.
Sound and solid with presentable paintwork, it is no show queen but has been well-maintained and was driven 70 miles to Brightwells with no problems. The last MOT expired in June 2019 with no advisories recorded and it is, of course, now MOT exempt and free to tax. With a fine summer ahead of us, this racy-looking MGB Roadster is ready to enjoy and will turn heads wherever it goes.
