1934 Vauxhall Light Six ASY

Reserve
Direct from Vauxhall Motors Heritage Collection;
older restoration in very nice condition apart from the engine which is loosely
assembled following bearing failure; an easy project for the home
mechanic
The early 1930s saw the rise in popularity of the
small-capacity six. The punitive RAC tax system favoured this layout and they
offered a degree of sophistication hitherto unavailable to the British motorist
with just a little bit more in their pockets.
Vauxhall were ahead of the
game in this area, General Motor's experience with its world-beating 'cast iron
wonder' six-cylinder engine ensuring the development of a new range of
British-built Vauxhall Six' models was an obvious choice. Offered in
12/6 and 14/6 form, they sold well and had many quality features such as
synchromesh, a fully balanced crankshaft with damper, servo brakes and
leather upholstery.
This very nice ASY Light-Six spent much of
its life in Cheltenham, a letter dated 1992 from a previous long term
owner stating that they sold it in around 1964. It joined Vauxhall's Public
Affairs department in 1992 and was last MOTd in 1999 as far as we can make
out.
Clearly restored some time ago, the fit and finish is impressive and
the car appears in excellent condition apart from the engine (the easy bit!)
which we understand encountered some bearing problems some time ago. It was
dismantled for inspection and has been loosely assembled for the
sale.
Complete with old style log book, letters from a previous owner,
original advert and some copy road tests, the car retains lots of nice features
such as the rear Vauxhall badge, side mounted spare and its original leather
upholstery and as with all the vehicles from the Heritage Collection, is offered
at No Reserve.
