1937 Vauxhall 10/4 H-Type

Reserve
Direct from Vauxhall Motors Heritage Collection; an
original and complete car for recommissioning; bequeathed to the collection from
a gentleman who purchased it in 1938; known affectionately as 'The
Duchess'
The 10hp Vauxhall was a clever car, incorporating a
sophisticated independent front suspension when its Austin and Morris
competition were offering a beam axle and Ford were continuing to their
antiquated transverse front spring set-up first seen on the Model T.
It
obviously appealed to Mr Frederick Goode, as on 10th February 1938, he purchased
this one as a new car from the local dealer in Lowestoft. He was to keep
the car until he passed it to the Heritage Collection in 2000 - a period of 62
years.
It was clearly much loved and photos on file show it at numerous
car shows. It sports an impressive array of badges on the badge bar and lots of
nice detailing on the car. There are also some letters on file from Mr
Goode, giving the Heritage Collection some tips on how to
maintain the old girl!!
There are 11 old MOTs on file, the most recent
from 2000 when the car was bequeathed to the collection and about the last time
it was used. The engine turns freely and the car will need a careful
recommissioning after its period in the museum. It is however extremely
solid and should pose few problems for the home mechanic.
