1978 Lancia Beta Coupe
No Reserve
Low
mileage one owner car; straightforward project; an extremely rare survivor
of this pretty coupe
Purchased new by its sole keeper from Puttocks
of Guildford in 1978, this handsome 1600 Beta Coupe was specified with Bronze
Windsor metallic paintwork and a Gold interior. By the time number plates
and RFL had been added, the bill came to £4,635 - less the allowance given for
a one year old Colt Celeste Coupe which presumably hadn't found universal
approval with its owner.
Apart from details shown on a couple of
invoices from 1980 and '81 and an unstamped service book, we know nothing of its
existence other than 31,482 of its currently indicated 59,558 miles had already
been covered by July 1981. It also appears to have been last taxed in
1984.
It will come as no surprise therefore that a dose of
recommissioning will be required and as the bonnet cable has snapped, we can't
give chapter and verse about its engine, although we do know it turns
over.
The Lancia comes with a handbook and appears to be basically
sound - yes, it will need a pair of new front wings and some remedial bodywork
here and there but it is far from the basket case it could
be.
Lovely to drive and pretty to look at, a Beta of this period would be
a great car to own - and rare too thanks to their unfortunate propensity to
rust, a fate that has not entirely, but largely been avoided in this car. On
offer today at No Reserve, it looks like a tempting winter
project.
