1978 Lancia Gamma Coupe
No Reserve
The
Gamma Coupe was the first of Fiat Group's attempts to take on the might of the
dominant German luxury car machine and the last Lancia to have its own
Lancia designed power-plant.
The charismatic 2.5-litre flat-four was both
torquey and smooth, giving the Bertone-styled car genuine 120mph performance.
Sadly, initial reliability issues and reputational damage due to rusting Betas
ensured it was no runaway success in the sales department.
Quirky and
individual in the truest Lancia tradition, this Beta Coupe is one of just a
handful of RHD survivors and needs somone to love it as all Lancias
deserve.
Purchased by the vendor from a gent in Cornwall, it remains in
extremely solid condition bodily and looks to be a straightforward
recommissioning project.
It is many years since it last ran on the road
- which would help to explain why the odometer only registers 56,000 miles, but
the engine turns freely and it all looks complete.
A look under the
bonnet reveals incredibly well-preserved inner wings and suspension turrets and
the rest of the body looks to be in sound order with just a few blemishes here
and there.
It is not known why it was taken off the road, but a good
service and some weekend elbow grease should get it sorted. It will then
offer sophisticated, high-brow motoring and comes with a current V5C
showing three former keepers and a copy of the handbook.
