Description
1973 Bedford TK 220D
One owner from new and
just 36,885 miles on this super old truck, Luton van body, 5690KG Gross,
wonderful time warp vehicle
Dating from January 1973 this fine old
truck has remained in single ownership since new, and part of the family
business residing in the Forest of Dean and has covered just 36,885 miles in
this time seeing light use for carrying furniture in its capacious, lightweight
Luton box van rear with placque by PEM Trailers of Bournemouth.
Fitted
with the four cylinder 220D engine mated to four-speed manual tranmission and
single axel double wheel rear end its in remarkable condition inside, out and
underneath. The engine bay clean and tidy with original bottle jack and
handle etc. inside we see an original vinyl interior featuring wind up
windows, original radio and heater. At the time of photography and consignment,
we noted the driver's door was sticking and it was difficult to open from both
inside and out and that the ignition could be switched off and the truck still
run, a stall required to shut it down although it started and ran as it
should.
The history file includes the old style V5C, Bedford Gaurdian
Maintenance 365 programme service book showing it was supplied by Skipper of
Gloucester with 2 hand written entries in 1978 and 1979, 2 old Goods Vehicle
Test certificates dated February 1978 and June 1979 plus Ministry of Transport
certificate of plated weights confirming Gross weight of 5690kg dated January
1974.
In dry storage for many years the truck is in an uncommonly
original, unmolested and timewarp condition that deserves to be preserved and
shown at classic events. One for the avid enthusiast or collector
undoubtedly.
