1942 Ford Jeep GPW
The 'Phoenix Jeep' from
TV's Car SOS; comprehensively restored; hood; tools and equipment; interesting
history
One might have thought that a car that had been on Fuzz
Townsend's Car SOS would come with an absolute pile of invoices and the
corresponding story behind it. Sadly, this is not the case with this car and
despite the best attempts of Mr Google, we have not been able to get our hands
on a copy of the programme - episode 3 series 1 we are told.
It was
supposedly a sad case given to them from the family of a gentleman whose garage
fell victim to an arson attack, hence it became known as the 'Phoenix'
Jeep. When it was acquired by our vendor, he was told that over £30,000 had
been spent on parts alone which is entirely believable given its superb
condition. It is even rumoured to have had a new scripted tub which is period
correct as well as new bar-grip tyres.
A previous owner has retained its
'BUD' registration number which it had when on the telly and at the time of
writing, the vendor is waiting for the new number/V5C to arrive from the
DVLA.
We have greatly enjoyed driving it round the Brightwells Estate and
the engine sounds very quiet and starts straight away. It has an excellent hood
and even comes with a 1942 dated jerry can on the rear.
For those who
have a Jeep on the radar, this is the one to have and we feel sure some more
digging will reveal the extent of the detailed restoration that has clearly
taken place.
