1976 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 Coupe
Well sorted
coupe with new carbs; much recent expenditure; sound jump in and use example of
this great style icon
Rarer than the Jaguar version but still
possessed with the same fine qualities that made the XJC a true classic,
this September 1976 Daimler Coupé has the 285bhp XK-derived 4.2-litre engine and
Borg Warner 3-speed automatic gearbox.
OAW 229P shows just 68,984 miles on the clock
with little use over the past fifteen years.
The history file includes
the V5C, DVLA ownership history charting 11 of its 14 former owners back to the
begining plus a considerable ream of historic invoices dating back to
at least the early mid '80s with notable works including new shockers and
springs on all corners in January 2007, replacement of the sill structures
on both sides in 2011 at a cost of £960 by Gray Fox Autos of Northfields plus
the cost of the sill assemblies themselves from David Manners Ltd at £439,
and replacement of the cylinder head, inlet and exhaust valves, 6 buckets, 12
guides, 12 springs and so on at a cost of £1,260 in October 2013 at The Jaguar
Workshop in London at c.67,510 miles. In addition, there are an impressive 28
old MOTs on file dating back to 1988.
During our vendor's tenure, he has
fitted a new fuel cap seal, new oil cooler pipes, new fuel tank (£227), replaced
much of the ignition system (rotor arm, condensor, plugs, contact
set/points etc) and spent a small fortune at Auto Classico in Bristol on
fitment of 2x modified carbs from Southern Carburetters (£690 alone) with manual
choke conversion, modified throttle linkage. It has had its ignition timing
re-set at a cost of £1,382 in November 2020 along with another earlier visit in
march 2020 at a cost of £1,192 for a full service including a repair to the
heater valve system, kick-down function, head lamp wiring and carb tune up.
The later replacement carbs have proven an excellent investment and
remained trouble free since fitment, our vendor driving the car up to us from
the Cotswolds, enjoying every mile.
This Daimler Coupé has a very
smart dark blue leather interior, a full-length Webasto sunroof and
drop-down rear windows. Walnut dash, power steering and automatic gearbox.
It is of course MOT exempt, its last ticket issued in September 2019
when no advisories were recorded, or indeed had been for the previous few years
which bodes well. Bar a few marks and blisters (as pictured) to the
lovely white bodywork the car presents well, offering something of the gentleman
gangster look - who doesn't love a dapper rogue?
