1959 MG ZB Magnette
Stalled restoration, which
starts, runs and drives with good interior
Dating
from January 1959 this late model 1,500cc Magnette is offered here as a stalled
restoration and offers great potential.
Starting well, the MG moved round
with ease as we took these photos. The upper bodywork needs further cosmetic
work, the interior looks good and appears to be largely complete and sound
although the vendor advises that the brakes need some adjustment after some
local drives.
Within the history file, we find the V5C and a useful list
of works recently completed, which include (but not limited to), new radial
tyres, new ignition coil and electronic ignition with positive earth fitted,
control box replaced, new dynamo fitted, brakes stripped, cleaned and
re-assembled, replacement diff with new pinion seal and other small
works.
The lower half of the car was recently re-painted (the car being
two-tone) with the top half needing further cosmetic work, although there are
areas requiring improvement across all panels as pictured.
Within the
car, we find a spare rear axle/diff, and a boot full of spare parts. The
burgundy interior has been reupholstered with new carpets fitted, the dashboard
wood trim is new in part, with two different grains.
The history file
includes copious notes on the MG progress and what’s been done, lots of printed
guides on problem solving and fitment of components. There are
also eBay listing details with images from when it was purchased in 2019 in
a rather sorry state and purchase receipt, MG parts and price lists plus a host
of bills for the considerable number parts and repair panels purchased over the
past few years totalling several thousand pounds.
This is an ideal
opportunity to finish the car, get it right and enjoy it through the very active
club scene.
