Description
1955 Mercedes-Benz Ponton 180
(W120)
Tidy and evidently restored LHD manual example
from long term storage; starts, runs and drives but doesnt
stop...yet!
Dating from 1955 after some vin#
de-coding (not 1967 as the log book states) this smart Left-hand drive W120
series (type 136, model 925) Ponton was recently sold to our vendor by Mercedes
Benz of Wolverhampton who have owned the car since 2004 having it on display and
as part of their Heritage collection through this time.
The car has seen
little, if any use since it was last presented for MOT in 2015 showing 81,206Km,
the car currently showing 81,244Km suggesting only 38km have been covered in the
last 6 years, although the MOT records show the car to have covered just
81,071Km in 2005.
The car presents well, the deep black paint has a nice
sheen with the burgundy interior most presentable, it starts and runs but would
evidently benefit from a thorough service and tune-up given its lay mostly
dormant for so long. The brakes seem ineffective so caution is advised for any
motive movement to load/unload but the handbrake showed some effectiveness when
we moved it around for these shots.
Under the bonnet we find the M136 1.8
litre four-cylinder petrol engine in 180-form which developed some 51bhp driving
the rear wheels via manual column shift transmission.
The history file
includes only the old style V5C and 2 old MOT certificates from 2006 and 2008.
Bidders please note, the V5C shows the registration/manufactured date as 1967
which is evidently incorrect and would benefit from being
corrected.
