Description
1965 Land Rover Series II Tow Truck
Every
boy's dream; Harvey Frost Crane; overdrive; PAS; ready for work; Goodwood here
we come......
Dating from January 1965, this Series
IIA 88inch Landy has been converted at some point to be a light recovery vehicle
with crane mounted to the rear deck. Up front, we find the 2.25 litre
four-cylinder ADO 23 petrol engine with the usual 4-wheel drive transmission
with over-drive and also power steering - an tidy conversion from a Toyota we
understand which works a treat.
A rating plate affixed to the truck
confirms the crane to be by HF (Harvey Frost, of Bishops Stortford) Pickup
Cranes and is/was (!) rated to 30Cwt SWL, Serial No. 70.
How much use
had it had, and how recently? we’d love to tell you, but we’d be making it up –
little is known about its use and life, bar what we can see on the truck, the
insignia suggests it was operated by Spirit Recovery Service and certainly looks
the part with its beacon on the roof, big ole' crane and rear light guards with
attractive 2-tone livery and rugged, yet evidently lightly restored
appearance.
The history file includes only the V5C showing the current
owner has enjoyed the truck since July 2015 as part of a private collection and
1 old MOT. The Landy is obviously MOT exempt and was last presented in December
2015 which it passed with no advisories recorded at 78,045 miles, the truck
currently showing just a handful more miles covered over the last 6 years at
78,196.
Ready to be enjoyed this Land Rover fulfills many small boys
(now adults) dreams of a Series truck with a crane on the back, we all love it
and think it would fit right in at Goodwood!
