Description
1977 Bentley T2
Well sorted T2 with Harvey
Bailey handling kit; formerly owned by the Lord Mayor of London and suject to a
£14,600 spend in 2000 with limited use since
Super
T2 finished in desirable Caribbean Blue that was supplied new by Jack Barclay
Ltd of Berkley Square on 16th August 1977 to the Chairman & MD of Fogarty
plc at a cost £24,248.25 – quite the sum then. The T2 passed to his son in 1978
who also became Chairman & MD of Fogarty that same year. The car was
believed to have always been chauffeur driven under their ownership.
Sir
Anthony Jollife then purchased the car in 1986 & gave it to his father-in
law Colonel R.G.Cross who already owned two Rolls Royces & was the owner of
Wolney Building Company. Sir Anthony became Sherriff of London in 1980 &
later in 1982 became Lord Mayor of London. In 1987 Colonel Cross had the
desirable Harvey-Bailey handling kit fitted at the cost of £1,950.40.
Sir
Anthony bought the car back from Colonel Cross on December 1990 & it spent
most of its time in his private air conditioned car museum, seeing little use
until purchase by Mr. Hacking in August 1992 who kept it only a year until it
was sold again in May 1993 and then again in April 1995 to a gentleman from
Radley College, Oxford. During his ownership the car was serviced by Stewart
Walker Specialists of Berkshire, the history file showing a considerable spend
of £14,629 in July 2000 for an engine, gearbox & Hydraulic
overhaul.
Our vendor, a retired professional electrical engineer acquired
the car from in January 2017 & continued to use renowned marque specialist
NRT Motors who had looked after the car for some time prior. During his
ownership the radio & 8 track cartridge player that would have been fitted
when new were both sourced & installed together with a Sony CD player in the
boot which is played via a frequency on the radio.
The history file is
considerable and includes most, if not all services & repairs carried out
through its life thus far along with the at least 32 old MOT certificates plus
the current, valid until June 2022 with no advisories recorded. The MOT history
reveals only limited use of c. 1,000 miles pa if that covered over the last few
years, the odometer currently showing 118,297 miles. In addition, the file also
includes correspondence between owners, copy old log books and other interesting
bits including original spec sheets.
There can be few Bentley T2’s with
such a comprehensive history file as this one showing that no expense has been
spared in keeping the car in excellent mechanical order. The car is also fitted
with the correct Avon Turbosteeel tyres and has been exhibited at various
classic car shows and jaunts down to the south coast. It is very reluctantly
offered for sale by the current owner in order to assist his son with his first
house purchase.
Ready to be enjoyed, this is a T2 to be used and loved as
its previous owners have.
