1953 Bentley R-Type
Imposing Garnet over
Regal Red Saloon; manual gearbox; owned for the last 13 years by our vendor;
used and driven; looks very inviting
Imposing,
handsome and above all dignified, the Bentley R-Type is one of those cars that
just exudes class from every well turned angle. And it doesn't just look good,
as Autocar pointed out: "Years of painstaking research and development with
mechanical perfection as the goal show their results unmistakably. Smoothness
and quietness and sheer quality are in the superlative."
Looking
particularly striking in Garnet over Regal Red, this 1954 example has the
desirable manual gearbox and was purchased at a Brightwells auction way back in
2008. Although initially used on a regular basis, NXL 222 has
recently spent more time in the garage than on the road so, reluctantly, she is
being put up for sale again.
In
2007/2008, the car was treated to a considerable recommissioning after being dry
stored for many years. This was done by marque specialists Walker & Bamforth
at a cost of £5,300, as documented within the file of paperwork. It has been
recorded as driving approximately 1,000 miles per year, but not used that
regularly since about 2013.
Now
showing 90,000 miles, the interior is lovely and original although the exterior
(in particular the sills) will need attention sooner than later as can be
seen in the photos - a factor reflected in the very attractive guide
price.
