1973 MGB Roadster

Stunning older restoration; BRG with black leather; in lovely order ready to use with an MOT until June '22; 52,600 miles indicated

Launched in 1962 to replace the MGA which had done wonders for the reputation of the marque and sold in previously unheard-of numbers, the MGB was also an immediate success.

Powered by an enlarged 1,789cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine with pushrod operated overhead-valves, it developed a useful 94bhp, could hit 100mph with ease and produced bags of torque at very low revs. Providing comfortable accommodation for two, it was available in both GT and Roadster forms, both with plenty of luggage carrying capacity and remains a very pleasing and practical classic today.

This MKII was produced in late 1973 and left the factory some eight months before the addition of the rubber bumpers - a modification that didn't meet universal approval but was necessary to continue sales in the crucial US market.

First registered in June the following year, it has 18 old MOTs dating back to 1992 when the car showed an unsubstantiated 35,000 miles. There is however sufficient evidence to confirm it has added just 17,000 miles since, an average of 600 miles per year.

The car was treated to a full bare metal respray some years ago, a quality job that has remained in very good order and included the insides of the bonnet, boot, doors and floors.

It has had a single 12v battery conversion along with an alternator, a stainless exhaust and a brake servo. Other extras include chrome wire wheels, black leather upholstery, woodrim steering wheel, a stainless luggage rack and a black Mohair hood.

A new clutch was fitted an handfull of miles ago and the car MOTd until June 2022 which shows no advisories.

Fitted with the desirable overdrive, this very well presented MGB ticks all the boxes in terms of spec and condition and is well worth a close inspection.
