1999 BMW 535i (E39)
Attractive E39 with 3.5
Litre V8 and auto 'box; local Hereford car from new with just 4-owners and 106k
miles
Supplied new by R F Brown & Son Ltd BMW
of Hereford in June 1999 this smart and attractive E39 generation 5-series comes
to us in desirable 535i guise and is finished in unusual Vermont Green metallic
and sits on its original 17inch 15-spoke alloy wheels.
An SE spec model,
we find the interior a soft and sumptuous place to be with very light
silver/green leather interior with green carpets, two-tone door cards, black and
green centre console with walnut veneer – it might sound mad, but we think its
spot on and absolutely lovely.
The spec also includes Sport spec seats
with manual adjustment, electric windows and mirrors, multi-function steering
wheel, cruise control, dual zone digital climate control with A/C, trip
computer, front fog lights, twin cup holders, original BMW radio/cassette player
and traction control.
Under the bonnet we find the popular, and proven
3.5 litre M62TUB V8 engine which develops 241Bhp and 345NM of torque offering
more than ample performance with a nice, yet discreet V8 soundtrack driving the
rear wheels via 5-speed automatic/tiptronic transmission.
The car has
remained a local car to Hereford since new, clocking up just 106,500 miles in
the hands of its 4-owners, the previous 3 all known to the current owner who has
owned it since 2016 and has known the car from new. The history file includes
the V5C, the owner’s pack and service book revealing 7 stamps inc. PDI, all by
Hereford BMW main dealers Browns and then Cotswold BMW, the last stamp in June
2004 at 71,630. We gather from the vendor the car has since been maintained by
Foley Auto Services of Hereford, but the invoices were booked through the owners
company.
In addition, we find 11 old MOTs plus the current valid until
November 2022 which recorded 7 advisories (take a look online at
check-mot.service.go.uk and enter the reg) showing the car has only seen limited
usage covering only 260 miles in the last 4 years. In addition to the MOTs we
also find an old style V5 and sole service invoice dated 2010 at 95,632 miles by
Cotswold BMW.
A smart example with a V8 engine in a lovely colour scheme
crying out for some regular use and looks good value given the recent price
hikes of the V8 engine E39s. Journos often suggest the E39 was the last
of the properly built BMWs and worthy of the 90s ad campaign –
"the ultimate driving machine".
