1977 Land Rover Series III 101" Forward Control Petrol
V8
Driven over 101 miles to the sale; last in service at RAF
Brize Norton; more recently used in part of a private collection since
2016
One of Land Rover’s real life monster
trucks, this is one of the more powerful, later models with the big V8
petrol engine, often referred to as 'thirstier than Oliver Reed at opening
time' apparently!
Maybe thirsty,
but bags of fun, lots of practical space in the back and this one starts, drives
and was driven to us from Oxfordshire.
Built in
1977 and know by NATO as a General Service with Winch, 1 Tonne 4x4 Launcher
Towing Rapier Rover, it still wears its olive drab paintwork and was
stored at Ashchurch MoD until 1985 when it was put into service as a transport
vehicle for 19 Squadron of the USAF at RAF Brize Norton. Released from military
duty in 1995, it was UK registered and has been through nine registered keepers
since.
Inside the cab, we find a multitude of
knobs and dials as one would hope and expect, but once the handy battery
isolator has been activated, the choke pulled out, the engine fires into
life with very little problem. Driven over 100 miles to the sale, we have moved
it around our site for photographs and a video with no obvious issues. In the
rear, our vendor has fitted some Renault Espace seating, which could be removed
if necessary, but for the time being could be quite helpful as they are properly
bolted down and fitted with built in seat belts.
Obviously this 101 is showing some signs of age, but most MOT
issues that it struggled with in 2018 have been attended to in order to gain a
pass certificate that same year. It has been regularly used by the vendor
since then for collecting items that he has catapulted across his garden! He
owns a trebuchet obviously…..
Paperwork on file
confirm the military history and looking very reasonably priced, this could be
your next toy, whether to take camping, take to shows, use as a garden tool, or
just use to make you smile!
