2000 Maserati 3200 GTA

Recently pulled from 7 years professional storage; new uprated throttle body and pedal position sensor; twin turbo 3.2 V8 with a fresh MOT showing just 41,904 miles with huge history file

Dating from April 2000 this beautiful Maserati 3200 GTA (typo 338) comes to us finished in attractive Grigio metallic, sitting upon its original 10-spoke 18” alloy wheels with polished quad exhaust tips and those stunning LED rear lights (the 3200GT was the world’s first car to use LED tail lights).

Under the shapely bonnet, complete with functional vents we find the beating heart, the sonorous 3.2-litre dual overhead cam, 32 valve twin-turbo V8 AM585 engine which develops a whopping 370bhp and massive 491NM of torque driving the rear wheels, here, via four-speed BTR M-72LE automatic transmission which many believe is more suited to the car’s nature and aggressive power delivery when the twin turbos boost.

Inside, we find black leather covering most surfaces, electric adjustment to the front seats, carbon dash trim, Sport mode, automatic climate control with AC, original Becker Mexico CC radio/CD player (with boot mounted changer), traction control (leave that one on, especially in the wet), electric folding mirrors and electric windows.  Above your head, you’ll find a suede head-lining and there is proper seating for four with excellent rear seats and a large boot with original inflator canister and Maserati tool kit.

The car shows just 41,904 miles covered by just five former owners to the current who pulled it out of 7 years of professional storage.  The history file reveals the V5C, owner’s pack, 2 keys including red master key, key code cards and a host of invoices.  The invoices on file are numerous and include a Maserati print-out of seven main dealer & Specialist services up to 2013 at which time the car had covered 39,305 miles when seen by Emblem Sports Cars (Ferrari/Maserati and Lamborghini Specialists) which are backed up by supporting invoices.

Prior to being put into storage in 2014 the car was treated to another major service which including a replacement timing belt, new rear tyres, new cooling fan resistor, new coolant hoses and clips, new brake pipe and new front coil springs at a cost of some £3,047 in September 2014 at 40,806 miles also by Emblem Sport Cars.

Emblem sold the car to the last owner in June 2013 at which time they also replaced the front lower arms, O/S tie bar, NSR upper arm, front drop links, rear main oil seal, annual service and wax oil protection.  The file includes an impressive and considerable array of more historic (pre 2013) invoices for regular service/maintenance and parts including timing belt changes, replacement AC compressor, new AC radiator, gaskets, oil cooler etc dating back to 2003 at 12,000 miles plus correspondence relating to a factory recall.

Most recently, the car has been treated to a new battery and new uprated throttle body and throttle position sensor at a cost of £819 (a common issue) supplied by all-round good guy and 3200 Guru Shanks Engineering (Maserati3200.net). One of the old units is included in the boot, in a box, the other went back to Shanks on an exchange basis.

A couple of intermittent warning lamps have come on and off during our time with the car, including the check engine light, which we gather is related to the replacement of the throttle body and pedal potentiometer and needs re-setting.  The other can sometimes be the RCY light indicating, we gather, a gearbox oil and strainer change is due or surface corrosion to the rear ABS rings and speed sensors from where the car has been stood.  The vendor tells us, these are temperamental cars and its essential when starting to let all the ignition lights come off and go out before firing the engine.

We also find 5 old MOT certificates along with the current fresh MOT valid until March 2023 which recorded no advisories.

Driven to the sale and covering c.50 miles since coming out of storage, we gather the car ran well enroute to us despite the intermittent warning lights that most Maserati owners tend to be accustomed to and went through its MOT without a hitch.

With under 42,000 miles on the clock and massive history file this car looks intriguing and tempting at the enticing guide price suggested, permitting scope to address any minor foibles resulting from seven years tucked away, perhaps refurbish the wheels and attend to the tiny ding pictured above the rear OS bumper edge and you’ll have a cracking car.

They go particularly well, sound fantastic, have svelte lines, seat four and are rare, this being one of just 2,106 GTA’s built out of only 4,795 3200 GT and GTAs built. Tipped for great things in terms of investment appeal, (also recently tipped by Hagerty as 'one to watch' its one to buy now and watch with interest.
